Well… You might not know it, but I’m a big fan of sport cars. I just love checking the limit of everything with four wheels and engine :-). So after watching S14E01 of Top Gear, The Transfăgărășan was on my “must experience it” in Romania.
- The road climbs to an altitude of 2,042 meters, making it the second highest mountain pass in Romania after the Transalpina.
- Near the highest point, at Bâlea Lake, the road passes through Bâlea Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in Romania at 884 m.
- Many workers died; official records state that only 40 soldiers lost their lives, but unofficial estimates by workers put the number in the hundreds.
- If you have gasoline in your blood, it will blow your mind 😉
Words cannot give what it feels like to drive on this awesome, phenomenal road.
